WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
Okowa’s administration has taken various steps to enhance the welfare of women in the state.
Between 2016 and 2019, women have enjoyed various empowerment programmes:
- 850 Women trained in Confectioneries and Industrial Production
- 500 Women empowered with Cassava Processing Machine, Oil Processing Machine and Fish Dryer
- PWDs and Women living with HIV were also empowered by the Ministry of Women Affairs in 2019
- 600 indigent women across the state recieved cash grants
In 2020, Delta State Women Empowerment and Skills Acquisition Programme (WESAP) was created in line with Dr. Okowa’s commitment towards ensuring the sustained empowerement of women in order to enhance economic status of families and peace in the state.
So far, 460 women drawn from the 25 LGAs have completed their training under WESAP and presented with starter packs in their respective areas of vocation.
